3-1/2 Stars – “‘Frost Nixon'” dazzling, humorous & timely” – Ben Siegel, The Buffalo News

Jack Hunter in ICTC's "Frost/Nixon"

by Ben Siegel, Published March 2, 2019 Theater is at its best when it uses history to illuminate current times. A great historical play reminds us … that corruption is a timeless craft, that it’s always the cover-up that will get you, and that politics is all optics. Peter Morgan’s “Frost/Nixon” checks all of these… Read more »

“just plain delicious fun … An Austen experience like no other.” – Ann Marie Cusella, Buffalo Vibe

By Ann Marie Cusella, buffalovibe.com, posted January 27, 2019 Sense & Sensibility at Irish Classical Theatre is still very much a Jane Austen experience, but it seems as though that lady might have ingested a steroid with her tea, or perhaps even a psychedelic or two. Playright Kate Hamill has blown it up into a… Read more »

“a charmer … staged with flair … fine ensemble … pure vintage” – buffalotheatreguide.com

ICTC's "The Awful Truth" by Arthur Richman

-by Cherie Messore, Monday, April 23, 2018 The grace and elegance of the upper-crust 1930s society- warts and all – is all part of ‘The Awful Truth’ staged by the Irish Classical Theatre Company. Yes, plenty of pricey perfume may hide the unsavory scent of deception, but when the smell is intoxicatingly sweet and pleasant,… Read more »

“Character driven and what characters!” – 4 Buffalos! – Peter Hall, buffalo rising

“superb … stunning … quirky, dark, hilarious … excellent” – buffalotheatreguide.com

On Stage thru March 25, 2018

by Colin Fleming-Stumpf Published March 6, 2018 The power of a blackbox theatre — particularly a blackbox theatre “in-the-round” (in which the stage is surrounded by seats on all sides) — is the intimacy it creates. If you’ve been to the Irish Classical Theatre before, you’re familiar with the unique experience that is cultivated through… Read more »

“urgency and intrigue … a riveting production” – Michael Rabice, broadwayworld.com

Published March 5, 2018 – Unhappiness in rural Dublin– Not an altogether unlikely topic for a play. But when Buffalo’s Irish Classical Theatre included Conor McPherson’s THE NIGHT ALIVE as part of their season of comedies, I wondered how it fit the bill. Happily the play about unhappiness somehow morphs from dark comedy to a… Read more »

4 STARS! – “‘The Night Alive’ Shines with Dark Humor & Vivid Power” – The Buffalo News

by Melinda Miller, Published March 3, 2018 – There is a lot to like about Irish Classical Theatre’s production of “The Night Alive,” Conor McPherson’s dark comedy about a clutch of life’s losers trying to make a go of it in modern-day Dublin. McPherson has a sure hand with dialogue and gift for knowing just… Read more »

3-1/2 STARS! “‘The Constant Wife’ is a constant pleasure” – The Buffalo News

By Colin Dabkowski, The Buffalo News  | Published 7:00 a.m. January 24, 2018 Constance Middleton is one cool customer. She takes a liberal view of infidelity.  She blithely compares the notion of sex with her husband to eating cold mutton. And while she certainly thinks men are sweet, she also believes that it would be “absurd to… Read more »

Irish Classical Theatre: A dream come true for two Dublin-born brothers

In 1985, two Dublin-born brothers, Vincent and Chris O’Neill, internationally acclaimed actors and former members of Ireland’s celebrated Abbey Theatre, found themselves in Buffalo, New York performing Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot in the dining room of a local hotel. They were enthusiastically embraced by Western New York audiences and critics and, together with fellow Dubliners Josephine Hogan and the late Dr. James Warde, formed the Irish Classical Theatre Company. Performing on various rented stages until a permanent home was established at the Calumet Arts Café, ICTC became the fastest growing theatre in the region and led to the building of its new home, The Andrews Theatre, which opened its doors in January of 1999 in Buffalo’s Theatre District.
